Our commitment to people, community, environment and governance is represented in Horizon Works’ Good Vibes programme. We believe that long term success is built on looking after our people, contributing positively to our region, acting responsibly towards the environment and operating with strong, ethical governance.

PEOPLE

Our people matter. That’s why we’ve created an environment where employees can thrive, why we invest in staff, and why we prioritise wellbeing.

We actively promote a healthy, balanced and supportive workplace and place a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development.

And we foster an inclusive, collaborative workplace culture, which is led by our values: passion; ownership; collaboration; positivity; and inspiration.

  • Everyone’s circumstances are different: our flexible and hybrid working arrangements enable our people to maintain a strong work–life balance.
  • Our CPD programmes, including CIM and CIPR training, help our team members develop specialisms and enhance their careers.
  • Sometimes you need to recharge – so every staff member gets a wellbeing day each year.
  • All team members have a voice in shaping the future of the business. We welcome feedback and new perspectives.
  • We have a programme of wellbeing and culture initiatives, from step challenges to volunteering days.
  • We have regular team building afternoons: staff take on challenges from pizza making and fairground games, to tackling escape rooms!

Our commitment

“We’re committed to ensuring our staff can thrive at Horizon Works and are dedicated to supporting their health and wellbeing.”

COMMUNITY

We care deeply about our home region.

Our hometown of Blyth is playing a key role in the energy sector. It’s an exciting place to work. But the town also faces significant socio-economic challenges.

As a part of Blyth’s community, we feel passionately about making a meaningful contribution to support people, places and future generations.

  • Horizon Works supports local charities, and we’ve partnered with Blyth Star Enterprises, which supports individuals living with complex mental health needs and learning disabilities. Learn more about Blyth Star Enterprises and our fundraising here.
  • We support Port of Blyth’s Christmas appeals, which help children in some of Northumberland’s most deprived areas.
  • We’re working in partnership with Connect Inspires, a career inspiration programme developed by Connect Northumberland, to engage with young people in our region.
  • We’re committed to providing work experience placements to young people.
  • We are committed to a diverse and inclusive supply chain, giving fair opportunity to local creative businesses and freelancers.
  • Every team member receives a dedicated volunteering day per year.
  • Our team regularly take part in charity initiatives, including sponsored walks and challenges.

Our commitment

“We’re dedicated to strengthening the communities in which we operates, supporting future talent and opportunity, and playing an active role in Northumberland’s social and economic progression.”

Our governance framework supports transparency, accountability and informed decision-making. And our governance is continuously reviewed and strengthened to ensure trust with our valued clients, partners and stakeholders.

  • We maintain strong financial oversight to support sustainable growth and business continuity.

  • We’re committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the business.
  • We maintain a strong compliance framework to meet legal, regulatory and sector-specific requirements, and have formal policies covering modern slavery, anti-bribery and anti-corruption.

ENVIRONMENT

We’re lucky enough to be headquartered on the beautiful Northumberland coastline. And we’re passionate about protecting this for future generations.

Our hometown of Blyth is playing a key role in the UK’s journey to Net Zero. And through our work, we’re supporting companies who are creating innovate solutions for a sustainable future.

Environmental stewardship and sustainability are therefore embedded into Horizon Works. They’re treated as an integral part of our business.

  • We’re committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
  • We’re encouraging waste reduction, recycling and more sustainable resource use.
  • When feasible, we use public transport for business activities, and work together to cut emissions through car sharing and transport planning.
  • Environmental impact influences our procurement decisions – we prioritise local suppliers and evaluate suppliers on sustainability criteria.
  • We take positive action in our local area: we contribute to beach cleans in our region, including supporting efforts to clean up plastic waste from the coastline.

Our commitment

“Through structured carbon measurement, waste reduction, sustainable procurement and active staff engagement, we’re committed to taking clear and practical steps towards Net Zero by 2030.”
